Selecting the right carpet for your dining area

A view of our current dining area set up: a 200 x 90 cm rectangular wooden table with a 200 x 300 cm jute carpet underneath.

When selecting a carpet for your dining room, consider asking yourself two primary questions:

  1. Do you dine every day at the table? or...

  2. Do you use it as a "showpiece"?

If you have a large room and can accommodate a very large carpet, that's wonderful! On the other hand, if your space is more restricted, it's crucial to think about both comfort and proportions.

If you chose option 1, you should consider acquiring a sufficiently large carpet that won't obstruct chair movement. For instance, if your table measures 100x200cm, I suggest adding 75-100cm to each side of the table.

If you chose number 2, the key point is that the carpet's size should be proportional to the table and chairs. Adding 40-50 cm to each side of the table will create a harmonious arrangement.

Extra tip: when selecting a carpet for a frequently used dining area, it's advisable to opt for materials and textiles that are easy to clean. For instance, jute or bamboo are popular choices that are also easy to maintain.
